Compared to his former Real Madrid teammate Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale is considered to be a better athlete.
Between 2013 and 2018, they spent five years playing together at the Santiago Bernabeu, winning four Champions League titles and the La Liga in 2017.
At the age of 37, Ronaldo is still in terrific form thanks to a disciplined diet and exercise regimen.
But according to former Real doctor Jesus Olmo, he can’t compete with Bale.
While in Spain, Olmo observed both men’s performances before coming to the conclusion that Bale is unlike any other athlete.
He explained to Ideal in 2020: “Perhaps the best athlete I’ve ever seen is Bale. Gareth Bale is a natural athlete who can excel in practically any sport.
“He has incredible athletic skills, and I would also say technical skills. He is the one who impressed me most in all aspects.”
Their respective injury histories make a difference between the two. Although Ronaldo has developed a few hip problems since joining Manchester United, he has mostly been accessible.
Bale, however, has dealt with a number of bothersome injuries over the course of his career. The Wales international relocated to LAFC early this year in order to stay in shape for the World Cup in Qatar this winter.
The tournament kicks off in four weeks time but Bale has left Wales manager Robert Page sweating after suffering a leg injury.
He missed Friday’s 3-2 win over LA Galaxy and is yet to play a full 90 minutes for his new side.
Bale told The Guardian back in September: “I haven’t played 90 minutes yet, which is what I’m building up to.
“We’re on a good path to where I want to be. I want to play 90 minutes as much as I can but I understand I need to build up to that because I haven’t done it an awful lot in the last few years.”
Wales’ first game of the World Cup is against the USMNT on November 21.
