THE Bluebirds crashed out of the Welsh Cup after they were comprehensively beaten by Cardiff Met University.
It was not a great afternoon for the Bluebirds who also lost Sam Roden to an injury in the warm up. Cardiff took the lead with eight minutes gone when Tim Nixon scored and then saw goalkeeper Chris Curtis sent off after he brought down Cardiff’s attacker.
Sean Pemberton was forced to go in goal for the remainder of the game and there was little he could do to keep out the resulting penalty from Josh Barnett. The students added two more goals through Nixon and James Ward before Steffan Williams scored a good goal to give the Bluebirds some consolation.
Richie Lewis had a good chance to make it 4-2 but he couldn’t find the net and it stayed 4-1. With ten men the Bluebirds faced an uphill battle in the second half but a fifth goal from Cardiff’s Dan Spencer ended any slim hopes of a comeback. Joseph Chaplin’s goal and Cardiff’s sixth rounded out the scoring.
The Blues will be hoping to return to winning ways when they get back to league action at Goytre this Saturday.
