HAVERFORDWEST earned a narrow 14-6 win over Llanybydder on Wednesday night (Apr 3) as they scored two tries in a game that was interrupted by a floodlight failure.
The Carmarthenshire side travelled to Pembroke Road looking to bounce back from Saturday’s defeat to Laugharne while the home side were playing their first game since March 23.
Rain made things tricky for both sides but they were keen to put on a show for the good crowd that had turned out to watch the game.
Both had chances to score throughout the first half but it was the Blues who led 7-6 at the break after a try from Craig Barnett which he also converted.
Llany’s two penalties kept them in the game but in the second half the Blues scored their second try through Karl Busch. Mikey Jones added the conversion for a 14-6 lead.
With ten minutes to go a floodlight failure temporarily halted matters but the lights were soon back on for the game to be completed.
There was to be no more scoring and the win for the Blues sees them go level on points with second placed Aberaeron, having played three games more.
Defeat for Llany sees them stay sixth in the table with three games left to play this season.
Llanybydder are in action on Saturday (Apr 6), when they welcome Llangwm to Parc OJ.
Haverfordwest do not have a game this weekend and are next in action on Saturday, April 13, when they travel to Laugharne. Their final game of the season is a week later when they make the shorter trip to Pill Parks to take on Llangwm.
