PONTYBEREM scored three tries in the last twenty minutes to earn their tenth victory in eleven game on Saturday (Jan 26), as they beat Carmarthen Athletic 15-5.
The home side put in a performance of grit, determination and heart to see off their opponents but they did not have it all their own way.
Carmarthen took the lead in the first half when prop James Newnian went over for an unconverted try.
It remained 5-0 at half time with the conditions also playing a part.
Going into the last twenty minutes Pontyberem pushed forward looking for a try and after some good moves by the forwards they eventually got on the score sheet.
Some slick handling saw Matthew Murphy go over and although the conversion was missed they came forward again.
Rhodri Lewis and Aled Rees both scored unconverted tries to make it 15-5 and they held on for another excellent win.
The home side did not panic and showed great belief to turn the game on its head which will stand them in good stead for their next game against league leaders Penclawdd.
Penclawdd are intent on an immediate return to League 1 but Pontyberem are just four points behind with a game in hand.
When the sides met earlier in the season it was the Bont who came out on top with a narrow 18-17 win and they will be looking to do the double over their opponents.
It promises to be an excellent game between the two sides in Penclawdd on Saturday (Feb 2).
