Bont’s promotion push continues

PONTYBEREM’s promotion push continued on Saturday (Mar 23) as they earned a 22-28 win away at Loughor.

The Bont travelled to Loughor looking to keep that winning feeling going at a place which has proved tricky for them in recent years.

The final score line of 28-22 in the Bont’s favour, is self explanatory at how tough and bruising a battle it was.

Three tries were scored by the Bont, with Matthew Murphy and Alex Williams crossing in the first half, after excellent handling by backs and forwards in both.

Winger Tom Lloyd crossed after the break while Mike Sauro scored 13 points from the boot.

The visitors also saw a disallowed try by centre Aled Rees who crossed under the posts after the boys broke away after brave defending on their own line. Rees raced the whole length of the field with exemplary handling, only for the referee to blow for a forward pass, when not keeping up with play.

Despite being down to thirteen men for the last five minutes Pontyberem defended well with Loughor pressing.

That try would have given them a crucial bonus point but it is still thirteen wins from the last fourteen games.

On Saturday (Mar 30), Pontyberem are at home to Fishguard. That is then followed by a trip to Carmarthen Athletic, and two crucial clashes at home to second placed Pembroke and away at leaders Penclawdd.
