Bridge too good for Neyland

MERLINS Bridge proved too strong for Neyland on Monday night (Apr 8) as Nathan Greene scored a hat trick to earn his side a 5-0 win.

Both sides had chances early on with Neyland’s Andrew Smith going close with a long range effort which was saved by Bridge keeper Gary Thomas.

With quarter of an hour played the Wizards took the lead as Matthew Divry crossed from the right for Greene who headed down and into the net.

Having been made to work for their 6-3 win over Neyland at the Racecourse, the Wizards were keen not to let them back in it and they put the pressure on straight from the restart, eventually earning a corner which came to nothing.

Luke Hayward then sent a free kick into the box from the half way line but Greene headed just wide.

However, moments later the Wizards doubled their lead as a corner from Hayward was headed in at the back post by Chris Ormond.

With ten minutes to go until half time, Joe Leahy found Greene who lobbed the ball forward and Will Haworth took over before shooting and seeing the ball go in off the post.

Adam Hawkins then came close to scoring as he cut inside from the right but his shot was saved.

Hawkins then set up Greene but his tame effort was easily saved.

The Wizards still held a 3-0 lead at the break and Neyland knew they would do well to find a way back into the match in the second half.

Both sides had chances again but it was Greene who went on to complete his hat trick with two further goals.

Having also beaten St Clears 5-0 on Saturday (Apr 6), the Wizards now sit seven points behind leaders Monkton Swifts with two games in hand.

The Bridge are next in action on Wednesday (Apr 10), as they host Narberth. Neyland are also in action as they host Hakin United.
