Brynawel stun Cwmamman in FAW Trophy

CWMAMMAN United were stunned as they exited the FAW Trophy to visiting Swansea side Brynawel FC in a thrilling match.

Conditions were perfect for a competitive cup tie and Brynawel were straight out of the blocks when Cwm were caught cold as hesitancy from a corner saw James Barratt calmly loop the ball over keeper Kai Rees.

This lifted the visitors and while Cwm started to dominate possession the pressing and hard work of Brynawel ensured that while creating a number of half chances Cwm struggled to fully test David Begley in the Brynawel goal.

With Charlie Davies and Kyle Ashford prompting numerous attacks the first half came to a close with a frustrated Cwm wondering how they could break down the resilient Brynawel defence.

Cwm started again on the offensive and with Begley making some good saves and Brynawel were relying more on counter attacks while Cory Saunders was causing the visitors all sorts of problems with his attacks and crosses from wide out.

Cwm’s league level appeared to be starting to tell and it looked as if they had recovered the game with a brace of goals from Kieran Richards in the 55th and 77th minutes.

Brynawel had not finished though and substiturt Chakhri Phromchantha who had caused issues for Cwm with his pace and skill since coming on steered a free kick from the edge of the box into the corner of the goal in the 79th minute and then earned a penalty for his side a minute later when he was brought down in the box.

Jack Hammacott put it away to their supporters delight and even though they were under immense pressure their defence held out for a famous win.

Cwm are again in cup action this Saturday as they entertain Abertillery Bluebirds at Grenig Park in the first round of the Ardal South Cup, kick off at 2.30pm.
