Cardiff brush Quins aside to seal semi-final spot

CARDIFF booked their place in the semi-finals of the WRU Premiership Cup on Saturday (Jan 22) as they beat Carmarthen Quins 42-7.

The two sides had met just two weeks ago with the Quins coming out 25-27 victors and it looked as if another thriller was on the cards before the home side pulled away in the second half.

Jake Beetham put Cardiff ahead with an early penalty but the Quins hit back with a try from Josh Batcup and conversion from Jac Wilson.

Some great play in the Quins’ 22 then allowed Beetham over to score Cardiff’s first try but the missed conversion meant the score stayed at 8-7.

Beetham added a second penalty to make it 11-7 and on the stroke of half time they had their second try.

Jamie Hill got the try and Beetham added the extras to give Cardiff an 18-7 half time lead.

After an even start to the second half it was Cardiff who got the next score as Kieron Assiratti scored the try and Beetham added the extras again to make it 25-7.

A powerful driving maul then put Assiratti over again and Beetham made no mistake again with the boot.

Beetham then added another penalty before Cardiff scored a final try in time added on.

Dan Fish intercepted the ball and it was played to Ethan Lloyd who touched down under the posts to give Beetham another easy conversion.

That completed the scoring and it meant Cardiff were into the semi-finals of the Premiership Cup.

Cardiff are next in action on Thursday, January 27, when they host Ebbw Vale, kick off 7:30pm.

The Quins are in action on Saturday, January 29, as they host RGC.
