CARDIGAN were made to pay the inevitable price for a lacklustre performance
as Penlan secured the double over the Teifysiders.
In their home game with Cardigan back in early October, Penlan had secured a 35 to 3 win which earned them a bonus point for 5 tries so the West Wales side would be out to even the score.
The visitors were on form and within the first 5 minutes were putting Cardigan under strong pressure which led to their early first points when the pack pushed the Cardis back over the goal line to enable flanker Ian Scrine to touch down.
Cardigan rallied for a time to hold Penlan at bay before clawing back 3 points from a Iestyn Crompton penalty at the 20 minute mark. Just 3 minutes later outside-half Scott Davies returned the favour with a 3 pointer. The battle of wills continued until just 5 minutes later when Penlan conceded a second penalty which Crompton made short work of to close the score to 6 – 8.
Five minutes before the half, Penlan won an attacking lineout inside the Cardigan half which allowed centre Steven Williams to gain ground, and long pass to winger Luke Davies saw him sprint clear to score a second Penlan try at the corner. Penlan lead 6 – 13 at half time.
In the second half, it was Penlan’s fitness and game play which proved the deciding factor, and continueous pressure from the visitors resulted in a penalty try. Scott Davies safely converted which extended the Penlan lead to 6 – 20.
The visitors gained their fourth try through Robert Green, before the conversion sailed wide and the final whistle went.
Cardigan now sit in eleventh place and travel to Hendy on February 21.
