Carew avoid Senior Cup upset against Lawrenny

CAREW avoided a Senior Cup upset on Saturday (Nov 13) as they came from behind to beat neighbours Lawrenny.

With Carew playing in Division 1 and Lawrenny in Division 3 the two club’s respective first teams have rarely met, this being the first time since a Senior Cup game in 2006 that the two firsts had played each other.

Lawrenny battled well in the first half and were rewarded shortly before the break when Owen James put them ahead.

Three minutes into the second half though Carew were level as Adam Muskett scored from the penalty spot.

Shaun Whitfield then scored four minutes later to put the home side ahead.

Three goals in three second half minutes effectively sealed Carew’s passage into the quarter finals as goals from Iwan Izzard and two from Sam Christopher gave them a 5-1 lead.

James Hinchliffe scored before Christopher completed his hat trick.

Jordan Gorman pulled a goal back for Lawrenny which was more than they deserved.
