Carmarthen hold on for excellent win

THE ladies firsts were last to play for Carmarthen on Saturday (Mar 12) with a tough match against Cardiff Uni 3rds.

Stakes were high to keep the winning streak going on this super Saturday. Carmarthen were put under pressure straight away from the away side but defenders Ffion Evans, Leia Thomas and Ffion Dart held strong and denied any shots to keeper Lowri Davies.

Carmarthen started to gain momentum through the midfield and some nice passes led to chances in the attacking D.

After some hard work by forwards Bethany James, Sara Evans and Cerys Smith, Carmarthen was awarded a penalty corner. A great strike from Ffion Church found the backboard putting Carmarthen in front. Cardiff Uni were quick to react and a few shots were thrown out way, but keeper Davies kept the goals away.

In the second half, both sides were starting to tire. The midfield of Catrin Soons, Rose Charnley and Ffion Church were furiously tracking up and down the field keeping Cardiff away from our D.

Anna Heath played some lovely one-twos to her teammate Scarlett McKenzie Jones. A great ball from Scarlett found Kate Williams in the D but the shot unfortunately went wide.

The final 10 minutes found Carmarthen under lots of pressure. However they pulled through and a big defensive block denied any goals to Cardiff leaving the score line 1-0 at the final whistle.

Player of the match went to Leia Thomas for her great defensive efforts during the game.

The Ladies firsts look forward to their final game of the season next week vs Penarth.
