Champions Hakin begin with win over Neyland

HAKIN United began the 2022/23 Pembrokeshire Football League season in fine style with a 6-3 win over Neyland.

The game had been originally scheduled for Saturday, September 3, but was moved due to Hakin’s involvement in the FAW Trophy.

Mark Jones opened the scoring for Hakin after 20 minutes but Mike Chandler equalised for Neyland just four minutes later as he scored from a Max Bowman-Davies cross.

The sides were only level for two minutes as Justin Harding set up Camron Thomas to score.

Harding was the provider again seven minutes before the break as Jack Britton made it 3-1 to the Vikings.

Neyland did not give up though and they pulled a goal back through Aidan Rees.

On the stroke of half time Thomas scored his second of the night to make it 4-2.

In the second half, Gary Hughes pulled another goal back to make it 4-3 and to give Neyland hope of getting something from the game.

Just eight minutes later though Jack Britton scored for Hakin to restore his side’s two goal lead.

Laurie Haworth then made sure of the points late on as he scored Hakin’s sixth goal of the game.
