Cwm seal the points under the lights

THERE is something about playing under the lights at Grenig Park that brings out the best in Cwmamman Utd. In a season where they have struggled to close off games or just never really got going they have a 100% record in the three night matches they have played at home.

Having suffered a heavy away defeat to Penrhiwceiber earlier in the season the home fans feared the worst when the away side had a chance in the first minute.

However, Kai Rees was well positioned to stop it and that was it as Cwm dominated the next 20 mins creating several good chances but they could just not convert them. Inevitably, against the run of play a break through the middle then saw Jaymie Wearn give the visitors the lead as he slotted past the advancing Rees.

Ceiber started to grow in confidence but with Luke Sherbon, Ross Morgan and Kyle Ashford excellent in midfield Cwm kept creating and Ryan Hurlow and Scott Jewell had good attempts saved.

The second half started with Ceiber briefly the more dominant side with Kai Rees called to make two very good saves. Gareth Howarth and Terry Maynard were working hard at the centre of defence while Travis James and Nathan Davies constantly supported attacks and it was Davies who found himself free in the box to slot home the equaliser in the 52nd minute.

Cwm then went on the attack and a fierce Sherbon shot forced a great save before a few minutes later a rebound from the oncoming keeper saw Ryan Thomas following up calmly slot the ball into the empty net from 25 metres out.

71mins gone and Cwm now needed to see the game out which has been a struggle this season. It wouldn’t be Cwm without some nerve tingling moments but the energy of substitutes Ryan Foschi, Cam Isaac and Calem Rees kept Cwm on the front foot.

They suffered a wobble in the 89th minute when Jewell was dismissed for something the officials heard but Cwm held their nerve for a much needed win.

On Friday evening (Feb 11) they travel to Llandarcy to play West End AFC at 19:30 who are one place below. Again under the lights in a must win match for both sides.
