Dafen and Drefach earn victories

A SCORE of 60 from David Dunfee helped Dafen to victory against Bronwydd in Division 1 of the South Wales Cricket Association on Saturday (Jun 23).

That helped the visitors post 179 all out in their 50 overs which also saw Jeremy Dawes scoring 33.

Dafen made a steady start to their innings after winning the toss at Cnwc-y-Deri and electing to bat.

Matthew Evans was run out by George Gleeson with the score on 21 before Dawes and Jonathan Randell shared 43 runs for the second wicket.

Randell made 24 before he was caught and bowled by Gleeson and Dawes departed soon after when he was trapped leg before by Dafydd Morgan.

Chris Randell made 10 before he was bowled by Dafydd Morgan and Simon Davies also scored 10 before he was caught by Oliver Furneaux off the bowling of James Cale.

Dunfee did not get much support from his fellow batsmen as Jamie Mansel was caught by Gleeson off the bowling of Matthew Vaughan for a score of 8 and Matthew Donoghue was out for a duck when he was also caught by Gleeson off the bowling of James Dickson.

Dunfee took matters into his own hands as he smashed four fours and four sixes and after Chris Hudson was trapped leg before by Dickson he was then run out by Furneaux.

Dunfee looked for another big shot but he missed and with Daniel Vaughan halfway down the track he was forced to run but the wicketkeeper hit the stumps at the far end.

Matthew Vaughan then bowled Rhys Marchant with the last ball of the innings meaning Bronwydd would need 180 to win.

They made an excellent start to their innings as James Cale and Jacob Jenkinson shared 76 runs for the first wicket.

Dafen eventually broke that partnership when Jenkinson was stumped by Daniel Vaughan off the bowling of Chris Hudson for a score of 23.

Cale then shared 35 runs with George Gleeson before Cale was caught and bowled by Chris Hudson for a score of 71 which included nine fours.

Matthew Evans then trapped Furneaux leg before for a duck and he also had Bleddyn Morgan caught by Chris Hudson as Bronwydd slipped to 125-4.

George Gleeson had made a score of 40 (seven fours) but he was then bowled by Matthew Donoghue and soon after Jonathan Randell had Meirion Davies caught by Daniel Vaughan.

James Dickson was then bowled by Randell and Dafydd Morgan made 10 before he was caught by Chris Hudson off the bowling of Randell.

Morgan’s wicket left the home side on 164-8 and that soon became nine as Pauluge Gihan Secstus Fernando was bowled by Randell.

Randell then brought the innings to a close as he bowled Matthew Vaughan and Bronwydd were all out for 172, seven runs short of their target.

It meant that Randell finished with excellent figures of 5-33 and the win sees Dafen take home 19 points.

Llandysul fall short

Matthew Mason scored 133 in his side’s total of 270-6 in which James Gardiner also scored 44.
