CAERNARFON TOWN kept hold of sixth place in the JD Cymru Premier table on Saturday (Mar 27), as they saw off Cardiff Met with a 3-2 win.

After an even start, there was a chance for the home side as a cross from the right wasn’t cleared and the ball fell to Telor Williams but he sent his header over the bar.

With 12 minutes gone, the ball was played forward for Jack Kenny and he pushed the ball past the onrushing Met keeper Alex Lang to fire into the empty net.

The Met continued to look for a way back into the game and shortly before the half hour mark, they were given a free kick in the middle of the Caernarfon half. Dylan Rees’ effort was tame but bounced just wide of the left hand post.

Lewis Rees was then sent free down the left and he cut into the box but his effort was saved by the Town keeper Josh Tibbetts.

From the resulting corner, the ball fell to Dylan Rees who saw his first shot saved by Tibbetts before seeing his second effort deflect wide for another corner. From that, the Met had the ball in the net but the whistle had already blown for a foul.

Eliot Evans was next to go close as he danced inside the box but his effort was blocked by a Town defender as shouts for a handball were waved away.

On the stroke of half time a free kick into the Caernarfon box fell to Emlyn Lewis but he scuffed his shot wide.

Early in the second half, Lewis Rees cut in from the left and made his way into the box but his effort went wide of the left hand post.

Seven minutes in, a corner into the box was only cleared as far as Sion Bradley who saw his effort deflected over the bar.

From the resulting corner, the referee spotted Bradley Woolridge pulling down Mike Parker and he pointed to the spot.

Mike Hayes stepped up to take the penalty and he made no mistake as he fired the ball into the net to make it 2-0 to the home side.

The Met then had a couple of chances to get back into the game before Hayes sent a lofted effort wide for the hosts.

Caernarfon were looking for another penalty on the hour mark but this time the referee said no.

A minute later, Lewis Rees played a neat ball into the box for sub Harry Owen who lifted his shot into the far corner of the net to get the Met back in the game. That made it 2-1 and there was still half an hour to play.

On 65 minutes, Caernarfon captain Gareth Edwards, booked earlier in the game, received a second yellow for a foul on the edge of the box and the home side face a further 25 minutes with ten men.

With ten minutes to go, Caernarfon broke from a Met free kick and Mike Hayes ran from inside his own half before squaring for sub Jake Bickerstaff who tapped in to make it 3-1 to the home side.

Four minutes of stoppage time were added and with time nearly up the Met were given a penalty as a shot was blocked by a Caernarfon hand.

Eliot Evans scored the penalty despite Tibbetts guessing the right way but there was little time left and Caernarfon held on for the win.
