WALES are set to take on Czech Republic on Friday (Oct 8), as they look to boost their chances of qualifying for the 2022 World Cup.
Both sides sit level on seven points going into the game and whoever wins will be in pole position to go on and secure their place at Qatar next year.
Wales have won two and drawn one of their four games so far while the Czechs have played a game more.
Rob Page’s side beat the Czech Republic 1-0 in Cardiff at the end of March and he will be hoping for a similar result this time around.
They will go into the game on the back of a 3-2 win over Estonia and a 0-0 draw with Estonia in Cardiff.
The Czech’s last game saw them beaten 3-0 by group leaders Belgium but prior to that they had beaten Belarus 1-0 courtesy of Antonin Barak’s goal.
They will provide another tough test for Wales having reached the quarter finals of the European Championships.
Following the game with the Czechs, Wales face another way test against Estonia in which they will be hoping they can at least find the net.
With two final home qualifiers to come in November they will be hoping to get as many points as they can from these next two games.
Wales have already been hit by the withdrawals of Ben Davies and David Brooks on top of Rhys Norrington-Davies’ withdrawal.
Tom Lockyer and Gareth Bale are also injured so the likes of Nottingham Forest’s Brennan Johnson, who has impressed since Steve Cooper took over as manager, may get another chance to start.
22-year-old Sorba Thomas is also included in the squad for the first time having shown good form for Huddersfield Town since moving to the club from non-league side Boreham Wood in January.
He will also be keen to justify his selection in the team which also features Tyler Roberts, Dan James and Kieffer Moore.
The Czech Republic will be without West Ham defender Vladimir Coufal and three players from league champions Slavia Prague for Friday’s game in Prague.
The Czech Football Association says Cougal, Jan Boril, Lukas Masopust and Petr Sevcik have all withdrawn from their squad for qualifiers against Wales and Belarus with health problems.
Friday’s game in Prague kicks off at 7:45pm.
