Bont seal third win in a row

PENYBONT sealed their third straight win in the JD Cymru Premier on Saturday (Oct 30) as they beat Bala Town 1-0 at the SDM Glass Stadium.

It was also the first time that Bont had beaten Bala and the win lifts them up to fourth place in the table.

Sam Snaith could have put the home side ahead early on but he shot over the bar.

On 14 minutes, Sean Smith’s shot ran into the path of Chris Sang who put the ball into the net but the linesman had put his flag up for offside.

The only goal of the game came on 23 minutes as a cross from the left was headed down and in by Snaith.

It was the strikers’ eighth goal of the season and he nearly had a second four minutes later but this time Sean Smith blocked his effort on the line.

The Bont continued to look for Snaith and another cross into the box looked to be going his way but Bala were able to knock the ball out for a corner.

Bala came close to levelling on the stroke of half time as Paul Rutherford crossed into the box for Dave Edwards but his header went just wide of the goal.

The visitors started well in the second half and Sang went close but he sent his header over the bar.

With just under twenty minutes to go Kieran Smith stretched to reach a loose ball on the box to try and poke it home but Bont keeper Morris got down to make the save.

Snaith had looked dangerous all afternoon for the hosts and he saw another header blocked on the line by Sean Smith.

Paul Rutherford then saw an effort blocked as the visitors continued to search for a leveller.

As the clock ticked on to 90 minutes Chris Venables appeared to be pushed to the ground as he broke free but the referee instead booked Venables for diving.

That was the last of the action as Penybont held on for another excellent win.

Bala will look to get back to winning ways on Friday, November 5, as they host Connah’s Quay Nomads, kick off 7:45pm.

Penybont will go in search of a fourth straight league win on Saturday, November 6, but they face a tough test against second placed Flint Town United.
