PENRHIWCEIBER Rangers booked a Welsh Cup third round tie with JD Cymru Premier side Flint Town United as they beat Ammanford on Friday (Sept 3).
The Rangers were galvanised in their approach and were deserved winners at Ammanford’s Recreation Ground.
Ammanford had started this Welsh Cup tie on the front foot as Kai Whitmore, Liam Samuel, Tristan Jenkins and Lee Trundle all probed the visitors defence but couldn’t find a finish to match their endeavours.
Ceiber’s defence stood firm and their goalkeeper Daniel Field was rarely troubled. In fact Field’s long range goal kicks were extremely accurate in finding their targets such as Ceiber’s experienced centre forward Ricky Carter who showed his close control in his hold up play.
As the first half was drawing to a close with neither team gaining the upper hand the ball broke to Ceiber’s Brandon Hill who found himself in space on the left hand side of Ammanford’s defence, he took aim and angled his cross shot at goal and watched the ball as it nestled into the back of Ammanford’s net.
Two minutes later the half time whistle blew leaving Ammanford to ponder their response to being behind whilst for the visitors it was more of the same determination as they had shown in their first half display.
The second half commenced and Ammanford tried to thread their passes through the visitors defence with Ammanford’s Leon Britton linking the plays.
Half chances were being created by Ammanford but they just couldn’t find a way to break through the Ceiber defensive lines.
In the 67th minute the visitors swept forward and Ceiber’s Joseph Jenkins got the visitors second goal of the game with a well taken goal.
Ammanford seemed stunned and as hard as they tried, they could not find a way back into the game.
The Cup tie was finally settled in favour of the visitors when in the 87th minute a Ceiber counter attack was finished off when Joseph Jenkins got his second goal of the game and earned his team a deserved cup victory.
They will now look forward to their third round tie after being drawn at home against Flint. The tie is scheduled to take place on September 24/25.
