CEFN DRUIDS picked up an important win on Saturday, April 10, as they beat Haverfordwest County 2-1.
It meant a perfect start to the second half of the season for the Druids while defeat for the Bluebirds has seen other teams close the gap to them at the top of the Play-off conference.
The Druids have proved a thorn in the Bluebirds side this season, earning a 1-1 draw at the Bridge Meadow before thumping them 4-1 at The Rock.
Haverfordwest attacked early on as Jazz Richards sent a couple of inviting balls into the box but the Druids were able to defend and clear the ball.
Alex Darlington then sent Naim Arsan down the right wing with a clever chip and Arsan crossed into the path of Niall Flint who smashed the ball into the roof of the net.
The Bluebirds looked to respond and started to get on top. They were inches away from an equaliser on the stroke of half time as Corey Shephard crossed into the box but Kieran Lewis’ header bounced back off the post.
The visitors started the second half the better as Ben Fawcett flicked the ball on for Lewis but Druids’ keeper Jones made a comfortable save.
Ten minutes into the second half there was more good play from the Bluebirds as Shephard flicked the ball on for Fawcett but he shot wide from six yards out.
On 70 minutes, the Druids broke and came close with a header but Gajda made an easy save.
Six minutes later though, the Bluebirds were level as Alaric Jones’ ball into the box wasn’t cleared and after a scramble, sub Danny Williams fired in to level the game at 1-1.
Shephard then fired a shot just over the bar before Marcus Griffiths headed wide as the visitors went in search of a winner.
It looked as if the game would finish all square but in the 90th minute, Stef Edwards sent Charley Edge through on goal and he curled an excellent finish into the back of the net to make it 2-1 to the home side.
The Druids were able to see the game out to seal an important win which moves them two points behind Flint Town.
The Bluebirds remain top of the play-off conference but they now hold a six-point lead over the teams below them.
On Tuesday, April 13, Haverfordwest County host Aberystwyth Town while Cefn Druids are away to Flint Town United.
