Galaxy edge past Tigers in West Wales Cup

WAUNARLWYDD Galaxy booked their place in the second round of the West Wales Cup on Saturday (Oct 8) as they came from behind to beat Pembrokeshire side Newport Tigers.

The Swansea Senior League Division 1 side thought they had the perfect start when they found the back of the net in the first minute but an offside decision ruled it out.

Ten minutes later and it was Tigers taking the lead when Jackson Bartush cooly slotted the ball past the Galaxy keeper.

Both sides had their fare share of chances but it was Galaxy who managed to equalise and then go ahead with goals from Gareth Morgan and Phillip Raeburn, going in at half time with a 2-1 lead.

Tigers came out fighting for the second half and Dan Williams beat the keeper to level the score in the 57th minute.

Galaxy stepped up the pressure and Raeburn scored again in the 65th minute to regain the lead.

The last 25 minutes saw Galaxy attacking furiously but the Tigers defence held up, keeping the visitors at bay and giving the forwards some lovely breakaway chances.

The Tigers were unable to find a goal that would have forced extra time as the Galaxy sealed the win.
