Good Friday preview: Race for Championship conference goes down to the wire

THE FINAL games of the first phase of the JD Cymru Premier take place on Good Friday but who will be celebrating come the end of the day?

The race for the Championship conference has gone down to the wire with three teams chasing the two remaining spots in the top six.

The big game sees seventh-placed Haverfordwest travelling to fifth place Penybont in a crucial clash.

Going into the final round of fixtures, the Bluebirds sit three points behind Penybont but their goal difference stands at -4 while Penybont’s stands at +2.

They would therefore, need a six goal swing if they were to overtake the Bont.

That is where, Caernarfon Town come in to play. The side who currently occupy that sixth spot are also three points ahead of the Bluebirds but their goal difference stands at -6.

Their final game of the season sees them taking on title chasing TNS who will no doubt be keen to regain the league trophy.

Defeat for the Canaries could see Haverfordwest take their place in the top six but Huw Griffiths’ side will be desperate to seal that sixth place after an excellent season so far.

Elsewhere, leaders Connah’s Quay Nomads travel to Newtown looking to maintain their grip on top spot.

At the bottom end of the table, Aberystwyth Town host bottom side Cefn Druids.

Aber have had some good form since the resumption of the Cymru Premier which has seen them move up to ninth place in the table, three points clear of the bottom two.

The Druids though will see this as a game they could win and will be desperate to get themselves out of the bottom two.

Flint Town United sit second from bottom in the table and they will take on a Bala Town side who will be reeling from their 6-2 defeat at the hands of Barry Town last Saturday.

Barry secured their top six spot following that win and on Friday they will travel to Cardiff Met University looking to keep their good momentum going.

All games kick off at 5pm with the game between Penybont and Haverfordwest County being shown live on S4C.
