Last gasp goal sends Wizards through in Senior Cup

MERLINS BRIDGE scored a late goal to seal a 3-2 win over Fishguard Sports in the Senior Cup on Saturday (Oct 1).

The Wizards earned two wins over their opponents last season but this was the first time the sides had met on the new pitch at the Pembrokeshire Sports Village.

The first half was goalless but Fishguard took the lead three minutes into the second half through Scott Edwards.

However, Patrick Hughes then picked up two yellow cards in the space of three minutes to recieve his marching orders.

With fifteen minutes to go, Lee Palmer scored after being set up by Alfie Stottor.

Stottor then scored with ten minutes to go to put his side into the lead.

Fishguard were down but not out and on 90 minutes Luke Thomas scored to level the game and to seemingly force it into extra time.

However, in the ninth minute of time added on, Stottor grabbed what would prove to be the winning goal.

On Saturday, October 8, Merlins Bridge host Clarbeston Road in Division 1 while Fishguard are away to Resolven in the first round of the West Wales Cup.
