Swans seal top six place after being held by Reading

SWANSEA CITY can start to look forward a play-off challenge after being held to a 2-2 draw by Reading on Sunday (Apr 25).

The Swans came from behind to lead 2-1 but a late Reading goal denied them all three points.

The point though was still enough to confirm Swansea’s place in the top six and they will be hoping to do better this time around.

Last season the Swans scraped into the play-offs on the last day of the campaign but they came up short against Brentford in the semi-finals.

This time, though, with two games to prepare, the Swans will be hoping for a much better outcome.

On Saturday, May 1, the Swans host Derby County with the Rams desperate to pick up points in their bid for survival.

They will finish with a game against already promoted Watford and that will be give Steve Cooper’s men something to prove going into the play-off games.

The Swans were relegated in 2018 and have had a limited budget but Cooper has been full of praise for his side.

They will look for two good results from their final two games to give them plenty of confidence ahead of the Premier League shootout.

The four teams in the play-off places are only separated by a point so who the Swans will play is yet to be determined.

But Brentford, Bournemouth and Barnsley will be no pushovers, something the Swans found out when they were beaten by Bournemouth earlier in the season.

The Swans had been in contention for a top-two finish but a run of poor form ended those hopes and they will now look ahead to the play-offs.

Their guaranteed place in the play-offs could give Cooper the chance to rest some of his top players but he will want to select the best team possible in his remaining two games.

Andre Ayew came off the bench to score on Sunday and he could prove crucial to Swansea’s chances of getting promotion.

Nothing is guaranteed in play-off football but Steve Cooper will hope to have his side in the best shape possible going into the end-of-season games.
