THE New Saints reached the third round of the JD Welsh Cup in comfortable fashion, after a 6-0 win against Llanrwst United on Saturday (Sept 4).

Jake Canavan and Jeanny Leblanc-Akpo helped their side progress with their first goals for the club, while Louis Robles and Dean Ebbe also found the back of the net.

It was all TNS in the early stages, and Anthony Limbrick’s side took the lead with 16 minutes on the clock.

A good ball in from Ash Baker found the head of Louis Robles in the box, where the number 18 sent a composed finish past Gwydion Owen to open the scoring.

In the 21st minute, The Saints were celebrating again, as Jake Canavan grabbed his first TNS goal with a powerful strike from distance.

And just a minute later, Limbrick’s team began to run riot, with Louis Robles looping in his second goal with another header.

The side in green and white continued to fashion chances, and Ben Clark rattled the crossbar in the 26th minute, before a good save the Llanrwst goalkeeper prevented Robles from grabbing his hat-trick.

It was 4-0 not long after though, as Dean Ebbe beat the goalkeeper with a composed finish in the 34th minute.

The goals continued to flow after the break, and Jake Canavan doubled his tally just before the hour mark, converting from close range with a well-timed header.

In search of their hat-trick goals, both Canavan and Robles went close again, but were unable to repeat their scoring feats on those occasions.

In the 90th minute however, substitute, Jeanny Leblanc-Akpo, rounded things off, as he slotted past Owen after being teed up by Leo Smith.

The Saints’ next game sees them travel to Penybont for JD Cymru Premier action on Saturday (Sept 11).

The draw for the third round of the Welsh Cup was done on Monday night and The New Saints’ reward for their win is a trip to Conwy Borough. That game will be played on the weekend of September 24/25.
