Welsh football teams and their January 2022 transfers so far

It’s the 2nd week of the January transfer market, so let’s dive into whos arrived at/departed our Welsh clubs so far.

Swansea City


Andrew Fisher

Swansea have signed goalkeeper Andrew Fisher from MK Dons on a four and a half year deal for an undisclosed fee of around £400,000.

Fisher has already played under current Swansea boss Russell Martin during the manager’s spell at the Stadium MK.

The 23-year-old has 64 appearances for MK Dons since joining them from Blackburn Rovers in October 2020.


Morgan Whittaker

20-year-old winger Whittaker has joined Lincoln City in League One on loan for the remainder of the 2021/22 season.

Steven Benda

Steven Benda, goalkeeper, has joined fellow Championship side Peterborough United, also for the remainder of the 2021/22 season.

Ethan Laird

Manchester United wing-back Laird was recalled by the Red Devils on the 5th January and sent to Bournemouth until the end of the season.

Cardiff City


Ryan Giles has left the Bluebirds after his loan spell ended January 3rd. He travels back to the West Midlands rejoin the Wolves U23 squad.

Newport County


James Waite

Newport have successfully signed 22 year-old Welshman James Waite from Cymru Premier side Penybont on a free transfer.

Waite, a right winger, joins on an 18 month contract – keeping him at Rodney Parade until summer 2023.

Josh Pask

Centre back Josh Pask joins from Coventry on loan for the remainder of the 2021/22 season.


Lewis Twamley

18-year-old Welshman Twamley leaves Newport for Salisbury on loan until the end of the 2021/22 season.

Ed Upson

Upson joins League Two Stevenage for an undisclosed fee.

Wrexham AFC


Charlie Trafford

Charlie Trafford joins Wrexham on a free transfer, previously without a club

The 29 year old won the Scottish Challenge Cup with Inverness in the 2017/18 season.
