Wrexham AFC sign striker Jake Hyde from FC Halifax Town

WREXHAM has signed striker Jake Hyde for an undisclosed fee from FC Halifax Town.

Hyde, 31, scored 12 goals in 27 games for the Shaymen last season, and has signed a two-year contract at the Racecourse Ground.

The forward previously played for Woking and scored 16 goals in 32 games in the 2019/20 season after helping the Cards to promotion in the previous campaign.

On signing for Wrexham, Hyde said: “It’s a fantastic set-up here and I’m really looking forward getting going.

“I had a couple of clubs in for this summer, and once Halifax let me know Wrexham were one of those, I spoke to the manager and from then on it was the only option for me.

“I’ve been told about the ambition and aspiration of the Football Club, and having come in to meet the group you can see that and I can’t wait to be part of it.”

Hyde started his career with Swindon Town, twice moving on loan to Weymouth and making his career debut with the Terras, before moving to Barnet in 2009.

He won the club’s Young Player of the Year award in his first season, but moved to Hayes & Yeading before spells in Scotland with Lochee United, Dundee (twice) and Dunfermline Athletic.

He moved back to Barnet in 2012, scoring 26 goals in 67 games for the Bees and earning an England C cap in 2013, and then went on to play for York City, Stevenage and Maidenhead United before his move to Woking.

After a productive stint with the Cards, scoring 27 goals in 60 games in total, Hyde spent last season with FC Halifax Town.

He added: “You have to have some confidence in yourself. I’ve been successful at this level for three years and I’m hoping I can continue to do that while I still grow with this Football Club and take it back to where it should be.

“I just want to help the team and score as many goals as I can. Personal targets of top goalscorer and things like that come later on – the first goal is massive so I’m just looking at getting that one first and then kicking on from there.”

On Hyde’s signing, manager Phil Parkinson said: “Jake’s an experienced goalscorer at this level. He’s got the know-how and we’re really pleased to get him on board.

“He’s a good character and brings experience and quality.

“We’re very pleased to have got his signature. He starts this week and I’m looking forward to getting him going and integrating him into the squad.”
