Gerwyn Price loses PDC world #1 ranking to Peter Wright

Peter Wright has become the PDC world number one and replaces Gerwyn Price to become the first Scotsman to top PDC rankings.

Wright, 51, is now the oldest player to become world number one.

Currently the PDC world champion, ‘Snakebite’ boasts 12 televised TV titles with 30 non-televised titles.

After 14 months at number one, Gerwyn Price lost his spot after failing to reach the final of the UK Open.

‘The Iceman’ lost 10-7 to Michael Smith in the quarter finals, with constant boos from the crowd along the way.

The Welshman become world number one in January 2021 when he won the PDC World Darts Championship, replacing Michael van Gerwen at the top.

Price won the 2020/21 PDC World Darts Championship after defeating Gary Anderson in the final.

Peter Wright is now the 11th player in history to lead the PDC rankings since it’s introduction in 1993.

Despite the breakthrough, Wright claims he didn’t win the number one spot like he wanted to, having been gifted it for Price’s loss.

Snakebite went out in the Last 16 of the UK Open after losing the William O’Connor.

Both players now look forward to the Premier League on Thursday, where Wright leads with 10 points and 6 matches won.
