Girls cricket more popular than ever

THIS year’s Lady Taverners girls’ cricket tournament was more popular than ever.

Over 150 girls from secondary schools across the county competed at the event held at the Dome, Haverfordwest High VC School sponsored by Valero Refinery Pembroke, Sport Pembrokeshire and Cricket Wales.

The event was so popular that schools had to be limited to just one team per age group.

Talks are in place to expand the tournament for next year’s event.

The final of the U13s event saw Preseli triumph over Henry Tudor School with the scores neck and neck after six of the eight overs with the last pair of Preseli girls taking the game away from Henry Tudor School.

Earlier, there was a very close first game in Group 1 between Preseli and Greenhill.

Preseli won helping them win Group 1.

Group 2 went down to the wire with Henry Tudor School emerging as winners after a number of close games.

The game between Bro Gwaun and Milford Haven was tied with Milford taking a wicket off the last ball to bring the scores level.

The Under 15s was equally as competitive with Milford Haven winning one pool and Preseli the other.

The slightly more experienced cricketers in the Milford Haven team prevailed to see them run out as winners.

Preseli U13s and Milford U15s are currently representing Pembrokeshire in the South Wales Finals at Llandarcy,  April 3-4.
