Second half goals seal cup win

TWO goals in as many minutes from Adam Davies and James Stanmore helped put the Vikings through to the next round of the West Wales Cup.

Brunswick made a bright start and went ahead in the fifth minute when Mike Eames’ quick free kick caught everyone off guard and his shot flew into the top corner. There was a good tempo to the game and the Vikings could have drawn level three minutes later, but after good work from Ashley Bevan, Adam Davies saw his shot tipped round the post.

With 20 minutes gone Brunswick’s Matt Jones was lucky to stay on the field when he flew into a tackle catching Matthew Broome. The referee only showed Jones a yellow card taking into account the slippery conditions.

A good passing move then resulted in a Hakin equaliser. James Stanmore played the ball through to Aaron Owens who crossed for Bevan to poke the ball into the bottom corner.

The sides were not level for long as Brunswick went ahead on the half hour mark. After a corner was not cleared the ball found its way to Mark Buckney who shot low into the net from six yards.
They were unlucky not to go further ahead when a stunning effort from Jamie Figgures cannoned back off the bar.

Just a minute later it was Hakin’s turn to hit the woodwork as Bevan saw his deflected shot rebound back off the post.

The Vikings clawed themselves back into the game seven minutes into the second half when Bevan’s cross from the left found Davies at the back post who had the easiest of tap-ins.

That goal stunned Brunswick and Hakin went ahead just a minute later. Stanmore broke the offside trap and while Brunswick’s defenders called for offside he went on to round the keeper and he slotted the ball into the net.

Frustrations got the better of some players late on as Mike Eames saw red for a two-footed lunge on a Hakin defender.

Hakin held on and will now look forward to their next game in the competition.
