MERLINS Bridge’s Nathan Greene scored twice for his side on Saturday (Jan 19) to help them to a 3-2 win over rivals Hakin United in the Senior Cup.
It was the home side who went ahead early on as Richard Hughes headed home unmarked.
However, soon after the Cup holders were level as Nicky Woodrow made some space before firing in to make it 1-1.
The Vikings then had chances to go ahead but it was the Wizards who held the advantage at the break.
Nathan Greene was sent through on goal and he slotted the ball past keeper James Manson to make it 2-1.
In the second half the Vikings levelled once more as Mark Jones headed in and the game was there for the taking for both sides.
It looked as if extra time would be needed to separate the sides but Greene rose highest to plant another header in the back of the net and make it 3-2 to the Wizards.
The home side held on and will now be looking to go all the way in the competition and will look forward to the semi-final draw.
On Saturday (Jan 26), both sides return to league action as Merlins Bridge host second placed Monkton Swifts.
Hakin are back in action at the Obs as they host Neyland.
