Hakin edge past Neyland to reach Senior Cup final

HAKIN United booked their place in the final of the Senior Cup on Wednesday night (Mar 30) as they beat Neyland 2-0 at the Bridge Meadow.

Hakin reached the last four with wins over Pennar Robins and Merlins Bridge while Neyland had beaten St Clears in the quarter final after wins against Milford Athletic and Fishguard.

Hakin enjoyed good periods of possession in the first half but they were unable to make the final ball count.

Neyland also had a couple of half chances with Mike Chandler heading over but the sides went in at the break with the score still at 0-0.

However, just a minute into the second half it was Hakin who took the lead as the unfortunate Matthew Phillips put the ball into his own goal.

Patrick Hannon made two saves in quick succession, first denying a shot and then tipping a free kick from Jack Britton onto the bar.

The Vikings also saw a shot hit the post as they continued to look for a second goal.

Neyland battled to find an equalising goal but it didn’t come and as they pushed men up late on, it was the Vikings who grabbed a second.

Shane Walsh doubled his side’s lead with a minute to go and they saw the game out to seal the win

It means Hakin are into the final for the first time since 2018.
