Hakin United ready for Afan Lido test in Welsh Cup

HAKIN United are set to take on Afan Lido this Saturday (Sept 17) in the first round of the JD Welsh Cup.

The Pembrokeshire side have successfully navigated the qualifying stages to reach the first round proper and excited for the challenge.

It will be one of their biggest games of recent years as they take on a side sitting ninth in the JD Cymru South, one league below the Cymru Premier.

Their last game against Welsh League opposition came in a West Wales Senior Cup tie in the 2003/04 season where they played Briton Ferry.

They lost that 4-3 away and Briton Ferry went on to win the competition.

Hakin United manager Scott Davies said: “We are fully prepared and excited at the prospect of playing a team at a higher level again in the Welsh Cup.

“It is no doubt going to be a challenge for us but it also makes a nice change to be going in as underdogs.”

Hakin got to the first round with a 3-0 win over Cwmamman United in the first qualifying round and that was followed by a stunning 5-0 win in the second round over Penlan.

With eight goals in the competition so far Hakin will look to add to that when they take on a Lido side who have won just one of their six league games so far.

However, in their last two games they have drawn with the Cymru South leaders Briton Ferry and beaten Swansea Uni 7-1 so they too will be confident going into the game.

The game at the Marstons Stadium takes place on Saturday, September 17, and kicks off at 2:30pm.
