Harrison Allen Bowl: Thomas hits half-century to see Whitland through

WHITLAND’s Jonathan Thomas scored a half century to help his side to victory over Pembroke in the first round of the Harrison Allen on Wednesday night (May 11).

Whitland won the toss and elected to field and they were able to restrict their opponents to 124-6 in their 22 overs.

The home side lost opener Jack Harries early when he was bowled by Connor Bowen and soon after, Andrew Price was bowled by Scott Newton for a third-ball duck.

Jonathan Rogers hit three fours in a score of 13 but when he was also bowled by Newton, Pembroke had slipped to 19-3.

Alan Webster and Luke Butler looked to steady the ship and they shared 39 runs for the fourth wicket.

Webster hit a four and two sixes in his score of 23 but he was bowled by Gethin Scourfield.

Butler had batted well to reach his score of 29 but, looking to add more runs to the total, he was run out by Shane Morgan.

79-5 then became 79-6 with the next ball as Scourfield bowled Sam Davies for a duck.

Aidan Fraser survived the hat trick ball and went on to finish unbeaten on 21. Paul White hit a four and a six in his score of 25 not out as Whitland were set 125 to win.

In reply, Shane Morgan was sent back to the pavilion early on as he was caught by Sam Davies off the bowling of Jack Harries.

Ed John made a score of 13 which proved to be unlucky as he was caught by Paul White off the bowling of Andrew Price.

That reduced Whitland to 46-2 but Jonathan Thomas and Scott Newton shared 64 runs for the third wicket to all but win the game.

Newton had hit one six in his score of 27 but he was run out by Jonathan Rogers.

Gethin Scourfield made a late cameo with two fours in a score of 13 but Thomas was the star as he hit four fours in a score of 51.

That gave Whitland victory and they will now look forward to their second round tie away to Llechryd.
