Harrison Allen: Quarter final previews

THE quarter finals of the Harrison Allen Bowl are taking place this week and all eight teams will be looking to make it through to the semis.

With holders Neyland no longer in the competition after their first round defeat to Lawrenny there will be a new name on the trophy this year.

There are two games tonight (Jun 21) with one being played on Wednesday (Jun 22) and the final being played on Thursday (Jun 23).

Last year’s beaten finalists Carew are in action tonight as they host Llangwm.

Carew beat Saundersfoot in the last round by 22 runs while Llangwm edged past St Ishmaels by just four runs.

The two sides had met in Division 1 action on Saturday (Jun 18) but that was abandoned because of the weather.

Tuesday’s other game sees Herbrandston hosting Llechryd. They are the top two teams in Division 2 and both will be looking to make it through to the semi-finals.

Herbie beat Llanrhian in their second round match while Llechryd saw off Whitland.

They met in Division 2 action earlier in the month with Herbie scoring 202 before Llechryd reached 103 in reply before the game was rained off.

On Wednesday (Jun 22), Haverfordwest host Kilgetty. Town went straight through to the quarter finals after Johnston were unable to field a team for their second round game.

Division 3 leaders Kilgetty saw off Pembroke Dock in their second round game and they will be hoping they can claim another Division 1 scalp on Wednesday.

Thursday’s game sees Cresselly hosting Lawrenny.

After beating Neyland in the first round, Lawrenny earned a nine-wicket win over Burton in the second round.

Cresselly beat Hundleton in their second round game and they will be hoping this year they will be the ones to claim the trophy.

Cresselly last won the trophy in 2018 while Lawrenny were beaten finalists in 2018 and 2019 so neither side will want to lose this game.
