Llanelli AC out in force for 10K

LLANELLI AC seniors turned out in their numbers at the 2018 edition of the National Radio Cardiff 10K with no fewer than twenty-five red and white vests taking to the start line.

Taking a new route this year starting and finishing at the same place, the route took over 5,000 participants past some of the capital’s landmarks on a fast flat course.

Olympian and Commonwealth athlete and coach Christian Malcolm was on hand to sound the horn to mark the start of the races.

Repeating his performance from 2017, Dewi Griffiths went out from the front and never looked back, victorious for the second year in succession on home turf in a time of 29:10.

The club from the Pemberton area of Llanelli saw ten of the athletes record new lifetime bests over the 10k distance.

Earlier on in the morning there was the opportunity for hundreds of young fun runners to compete over a distance of 2K for all ages before the main event shortly after 10am. Carys Wood from Carmarthen Harriers finished in a new personal best of 7 minutes 17 seconds resulting in placing second in the 11 and 12 year old age group.

Thousands of club athletes and charity runners will head to the 2018 Admiral Swansea Bay 10K Road Race, which is being held near St Helens Rugby Ground on Sunday, September 16. It will include a series of races for juniors over 1K, 3K and 5K which is always pouplar.

It will provide one of the final opportunities ahead of the Cardiff Half Marathon and Cardiff Festival of Running Events at the beginning of October.
