Llangwm keep title race alive after beating Lawrenny

LLANGWM ensured the Division 1 title race would go to the final day of the season as they beat Lawrenny on Saturday (Aug 13).

Llangwm sit 17 points behind leaders Cresselly and would need a 20-point win on the final day and hope that Cresselly don’t pick up more than three bonus points.

Lawrenny won the toss and chose to field and they saw Llangwm score 266-6 from their 45 overs.

Steve Mills top scored with a knock of 88 while Will Beresford added 73. Matthew Kiff scored 35 and Joe Kiff added 23 as Lawrenny were unable to keep the score below 250.

Ryan Morton took 3-59 for Lawrenny while Finley Lewis (1-26), Jamie Lewis (1-45) and Harry Thomas (1-60) all claimed wickets for the home side.

In reply, Harry Thomas scored 63 and Finley Lewis added 39.

Matthew Kiff took 4-36 for Llangwm and Noah Davies finished with 3-15. Luck Brock and Joe Phillips picked up a wicket each as they bowled Lawrenny out for 178.

That gave Llangwm an 88-run win and the maximum 20 points.

Lawrenny picked up seven bonus points for their efforts and that was enough to secure their status in Division 1 for another season.

On Saturday, August 20, Llangwm host Carew while Lawrenny travel to Haverfordwest.
