Mills sees Wanderers home

CARMARTHEN Wanderers’ Steven Mills finished unbeaten to help his side to victory over Newbridge on Saturday (Aug 3).

Newbridge won the toss and elected to bat and they made a good total of 233-8 from their 50 overs.

They lost opener Ben Wellington early when he was caught by Gareth Thomas off the bowling of Steven Mills.

Travis Morgan and Alex Horton then shared 70 runs for the second wicket as they put their side in a good position.

Garmon Dyfri removed Morgan, who had scored 23, when he had him caught by Ifan Knott.

Horton and Will Davey then shared 85 runs for the third wicket as they continued to put runs on the board.

Davey made a score of 33 but he was then run out by Liam Rogers.

Owain Binding then bowled James Morgan and he did the same to Horton who had hit seven fours in a score of 77.

Elliot Jenkins made a score of 15 before he was caught and bowled by Thomas and Ian Hughes then had Joel Holley caught by Thomas.

He then also bowled James Horton as Newbridge slipped to 216-8. Matthew Williams batted on to finish unbeaten on 39 as Carmarthen were set 234 to win.

Openers Stephen Inward and Owain Davies got the Wanderers off to a good start as they shared 82 runs for the first wicket.

Davies hit six fours in a score of 44 but he was then trapped leg before by Matthew Williams.

Inward and Steven Mills then shared another 52 runs for the second wicket as they continued to bat well.

Inward hit six fours and a six in his score of 46 but he was then caught by Will Davey off the bowling of Elliot Jenkins.

Gareth Thomas was also out to the bowling of James Morgan but Newbridge were unable to claim any further wickets.

Owain Binding finished not out on 34 while Mills was unbeaten on 67.
