New tree planted at Neyland Vale to mark group’s centenary

A NEW tree has been planted at Neyland Vale to mark the 100th anniversary of The Milford Haven and District Soroptimists.

The group has generously given the flowering cherry tree to the town of Neyland after Soroptimist International asked clubs to plant a tree to celebrate the centenary in a bid raise awareness of and help in a small way to combat climate change.

The Mayor, Councillor Simon Hancock thanked the women for their generous gift.

He said: “Tree planting is essential to combat climate change and this tree will ge a useful contribution  to the local tree planting target which Neyland  Town Council  had set itself.”

A tree had previously been planted in the location in September 2021 but was stolen just a few weeks after.

Soroptimist colours are yellow and blue and, at this time, it seems appropriate to dedicate the tree to the Soroptimist Centenary and also to the people of Ukraine.

There are several Soroptimist Clubs in Ukraine and members of these clubs have been in contact on the Soroptimist Chatline with on the spot reports of the horrors they are facing.

Milford Haven Soroptomists are now back working together following the easing of Covid measures and rules on meeting.

They are hosting a fun charity quiz on March 22, 2022, at the Royal British Legion Club in Milford Haven starting at 7.00pm.

There will be an entry fee of £2 per person and a prize of £25 to the winning team.

There will also be a raffle and proceeds will be donated to charities including Pembrokeshire Bowling for the Disabled Club who meet regularly at the Meads Sports Centre in Milford Haven. Please support this worthwhile cause if you can.
