Ospreys stun Munster

OSPREYS’ Stephen Myler produced six perfect kicks to give his side an excellent win over Munster on Saturday (Oct 23).

Munster had been unbeaten going into the game but their indiscipline proved costly as the Welsh side moved up to fifth place in the United Rugby Championship table.

From the kick off there was an infringement from the Irish side and with just a minute on the clock the Ospreys’ Myler kicked for goal.

Munster responded on five minutes with a penalty of their own to level the scores.

With fifteen minutes gone the visitors thought they had scored the games’ first try from a lineout but it was checked by the TMO.

Replays showed an obstruction as the Munster player was brought down from the lineout and the try was chalked off.

Myler added two further kicks before the break as they held a 9-3 at half time.

Early in the second half Myler scored with his fourth penalty kick to increase Ospreys’ lead to 12-3.

The visitors responded though as a driving maul was set up from a lineout and Craig Casey eventually went over for the try. The conversion made it 12-10 to the home side.

On the hour mark the Ospreys pushed forwards looking for their first try of the game and just five metres out a Munster infringement gave the home side an advantage.

When nothing came of it, play was brought back and Myler was successful with his fifth kick of the game.

With ten minutes to go Munster knocked on from a lineout and Ospreys had another advantage.

Again play was brought back and Myler made it six from six to make it 18-10 and more importantly it would mean that Munster would need to score at least two tries to get back into the lead.

They were unable to score again though as Ospreys saw the game out for an excellent win.
