Over 400 competitors and visitors flock to Broad Haven for the Pembrokeshire Coast Triathlon

HUNDREDS of competitors ran, cycled and swam their way as part of the Bluestone Pembrokeshire Coast Triathlon at Broad Haven, West Wales, over the weekend.

The premier Pembrokeshire sporting event, sponsored by Bluestone National Park Resort, attracted hundreds of visitors and 400 competitors into the area taking part in a 1,500m sea swim, a 42km bike ride, and a 10km run, organised by Pembrokeshire Triathlon Club.

One of the oldest triathlons in Wales, having been established in 1994, it attracted a large field of athletes, including relay teams of mixed experiences and abilities.

Yvonne Buckingham, Director of Communications at Bluestone, said it was good to see the community coming together to host the event which puts the area firmly on the map.

“We’re proud to sponsor the Bluestone Pembrokeshire Coast Triathlon. Not only does it attract so many people to come and stay for the weekend to compete and enjoy the great hospitality everyone provides here, it also provides great exposure for the stunning area we live and work in,” said Yvonne.

Five Bluestone employees were among the 300 competitors. Support was also provided by many colleagues on the day at the start and along the course.

Yvonne added: “The event doesn’t only promote sport and the coast and country area, it helps support the promotion of health and wellbeing which is vitally important for us all. As a local company we support many activities and initiatives in the area, but we’re also passionate about ensuring our employees understand the importance of having a balanced and healthy lifestyle.”

David Astins, Race Director for Pembrokeshire Triathlon Club, said: “Having the support of Bluestone enables us to put on a first class event at a very competitive price, whilst also keeping the community feel we cherish so much. It was great to have the support of the community and be able to raise a significant sum for a community project, Support Boardwalk.”

Bluestone National Park Resort has been a title sponsor of the triathlon since 2020.
