Pembroke keep the pressure on

PEMBROKE kept the pressure on the top two in League 2 West as they beat Tumble 3-36 on Saturday (Jan 26).

Coach Geraint Lewis was pleased with the performance put in by his side on a heavy wet pitch in the freezing cold conditions.

Having played Penclawdd the previous week Pembroke were forced to make a couple of changes due to injuries.

Despite the changes, their pack dominated for much of the game and Centre Dan Colley got the first try after a good move involving Sam and Toby Smith with the latter supplying the scoring pass to Colley before also adding the extras.

Sean Dalling then showed good feet to score an excellent individual try but the conversion was missed and Pembroke held a 12-0 lead at the break.

Early in the second half Sam Smith scored Pembroke’s third try from a driving lineout but again the conversion was missed.

Tumble then responded with a penalty but that was as good as it got for the home side as the visitors soon scored their bonus point try.

An excellent backs move was finished off well by Toby Smith and he then added the extras to make it 24-3.

Luke Hartland then completed another good move which featured many phases for Pembroke’s fifth try which Toby added the extras for.

There was still time for one more try as Toby scored his second which went unconverted to leave the final score at 36-3.

Pembroke also welcomed back Billy Wood who played his first game since pre-season when he suffered a bad injury to his finger.

Coach Lewis added it was a good defensive performance as they didn’t concede any tries and was also pleased to gain a big bonus point which could prove crucial come the end of the season.

Pembroke now look forward to another exciting game, at home to Tycroes on Saturday (Feb 2) with the Carmarthenshire side lying just behind Pembroke in fourth place.
