Powerful pre-season win for Cwm

ON an extremely hot evening at Grenig Park, Cwmamman took on an experienced Evans and Williams team from the Carmarthenshire League for a midweek pre-season match.

On the night needing water breaks it was a lively and positive encounter with Cwmamman coming out 6-1 winners in a warm up match well refereed by Wayne Neal.

A small but vocal crowd in Glanaman saw an exciting end to end match which was a great advertisement for the coming season for both teams with Blues Manager Ryan Stephens deciding to use all his squad effectively split into two different sides for each half.

It was Cwmamman, with the initial early pressure having successive corners and on the 25th minute Geraint Rees scored with a smart strike from 5 metres out and soon after Rob Morgans scored Cwm’ second goal with a superb shot from the edge of the box.

The first half finished with some strong attacking play from Blues newcomers Korey Palmer and Joe Lewis, 2-0 to the Blues.

The second half saw substitutions from both teams and Evans and Williams started strongly but on the 52nd minute new wingman Stephen Evans put Cwmamman 3-0 up and almost from the restart Blues playmaker Ryan Thomas scored a fantastic fourth goal with a lob of the keeper from way out.

Cwmamman number 9 Chris Allen then scored with a well worked goal to make it five, Cwm had scored three goals within 8 minutes and the Blues were now playing with great precision and power, thanks to experienced players Ross Morgan, Rob Jones and Luke Williams.

However, just after the hour it was Evans Williams pressure that resulted in a well worked goal for the Llanelli visitors, frontman Chris Bowen making the score 5-1.

Cwmamman finished the match strongly with Nathan Davies and Luke Williams almost scoring, but the strong goalkeeping of the Evans and Williams number 1 kept the Llanelli based team in the game until on the 75th minute Ryan Thomas made the final score 6-1 with his second fine goal. Overall a fine preseason game that showed lots of skill and energy from both teams.

The Blues First and Second Teams now travel away to Penrhyncoch on Saturday, July 27.
