Quins seal narrow win over Llanelli with late try

CARMARTHEN Quins sealed their first win of the Indigo Premiership season on Saturday (Oct 8) as they beat Llanelli 28-27 thanks to a late try.

It was Llanelli who went ahead early on with a try from Chris Long and conversion from Josh Phillips, who then also added a penalty to put the visitors 0-10 ahead.

Kalum Evans then got the Quins on the board with their first try of the game but the conversion was missed.

Steff Marshall then added a penalty for the home side to cut the lead to just two points.

Towards the end of the half the Quins went ahead as Ryan Bean scored the try which was converted by Marshall, giving the Quins a 15-10 lead.

There was still time for more action but the Quins thwarted a Llanelli counter attack and they held on to their lead until the break.

However, early in the second half Jac Davies went over for Llanelli to bring the scores level.

Davies then went over for another unconverted try, taking the score to 15-20.

Llanelli then went over for their fourth try through Nathan Hart to earn a bonus point and the conversion put them 12 points ahead.

Jac Wilson then reduced the deficit with the Quins’ third try but the conversion was missed.

Wilson then scored a penalty to bring the Quins to within four points of their opponents but time was beginning to run out.

There was late drama though as the Quins attacked and Kalum Evans touched down to put his side ahead and for a bonus point.

The conversion was missed but it did not matter as the Quins sealed the narrowest of victories.

The Quins are in action again on Thursday, October 13, as they host Pontypridd who sit just one place above them in the table.

Llanelli are next in action on Tuesday, October 18, as they host Cardiff at Parc Y Scarlets.
