Robinson earns point for Ammanford

ANDY Robinson, ex Swans legend, secured a valuable point for Ammanford on Friday evening (Aug 23) at the Old Road against Briton Ferry Llansawel.

Robinson was making his debut for Ammanford and linked up with his ex-Swans striking partner Lee Trundle who was also making his Ammanford debut.

A large crowd had turned up at the Old Road to watch this encounter and it proved to be a lively contest.

Ammanford got off to a dream start when after 4 minutes gone, Ammanford striker Gavin Jones smashed home an unstoppable shot into the back of the Ferry net, 0-1.

However, the joy was short lived minutes later when Briton Ferry Llansawel equalised with a goal from Cam Harris, 1-1.

From this moment on in the first half it was the home team that were in the ascendency and were creating heart stopping moments for the beleaguered Ammanford defence.

Ammanford keeper Craig Morris did well to keep the home team’s attack at bay on several occasions.

As the game approached the half hour mark a defensive lapse from Ammanford allowed home striker Mark Jones to pounce and exact full punishment for the mistake by slotting the ball into the Ammanford net, 2-1.

As the first half ended it was the home side that were probably pondering why it was only 2-1 at the break.

The second half saw Ammanford start to get to grips with the game and some good chances were being created. Bruno Forkouh came close on a couple of occasions as did Gavin Jones.

Ammanford made changes and on came the dependable Euros Griffiths and striker Craig Frater replacing captain Rhys Fisher and Bruno Forkouh respectively.

The impetus had the desired effect as Ammanford pushed forward looking for the equaliser.

Andy Robinson duly obliged with a shot on the turn that burst the roof of the Ferry net to level the game at 2-2.

Ammanford tried to push on for the winner but the home team also had belief that they could claim the points.

As the final whistle blew, both sides had to settle for a point.

Ammanford play Swansea University on Tuesday (Aug 27) in their first league home game of the season and a large crowd is expected.
