SWANSEA moved up to fourth place in the West Group of the Premiership Cup after they beat Llanelli 19-27 at Parc Y Scarlets on Saturday (Nov 20).
Harri Houston put Swansea ahead on 11 minutes with the first try of the game and James Davies added the conversion.
Just two minutes later Tom Sloane went over for Swansea and John Rhys Williams added the extra two points for a 0-14 lead.
Gareth Rees then scored Swansea’s third try on 21 minutes and Williams added the extras.
There was then a series of yellow cards with both sides drawing the ire of the referee.
Swansea’s Rhys Williams was first to be given his marching orders on 28 minutes.
Seven minutes later there were yellows for Swansea’s Tom Sloane and Llanelli’s Rhys Cherry and the sides were temporarily playing 14 against 13.
Just as Swansea were getting back to 14, they were given another yellow, this time for Houston and they were they were back down to 13 players.
The home side did make their advantage count at the end of the half as Harrison Button dived over and Llew Smith added the extras.
That made it 7-21 and Swansea would be beginning the second half two men light.
Llanelli were unable to score again at the start of the second half but they did get the next score as Button scored his second try. This time Smith missed the conversion.
On 68 minutes Llanelli scored again as Ryan Davies touched down and Smith added the extras to bring the home side within two points of Swansea with the score at 19-21.
Three minutes later the visitors gave themselves some breathing space as John Rhys Williams slotted a penalty.
He added another penalty in time added on to make sure of their victory.
It means Swansea now sit fourth in the table ahead of the final group games. Swansea’s final game sees them take on Bridgend who sit just two points below them in the table.
Llanelli will look to end on a positive note as they travel to Carmarthen Quins.
