Taffs Well too good for Ammanford

AMMANFORD’s Tristan Jenkins scored his fifth goal in three JD Cymru South games but it wasn’t enough to stop Taffs Well running away with a 4-2 win last Friday evening (Jul 30).

The win for the Wellmen was their first of the season after what was an excellent away performance.

Taffs Well were two goals up in the first half with goals from Marcus Jones and Jan Maertins.

It got worse for the home team when two further Taffs Well goals followed, a second for Jan Maertins and a well taken free kick from Jamie Owen, 0-4.

Ammanford were without a few influential key players but were kept subdued by the Wellmen’s determined approach to this game.

The Black and White Army did have some consolation in the last twenty minutes when Lee Trundle had his spot kick saved but he followed up on the rebound and slotted the ball home to give a glimmer of hope.

Ammanford tried to haul themselves back into the game but some good blocks from the Wellmen’s defence thwarted the home attack.

It wasn’t until the 88th minute that Tristan Jenkins produced a sublime bit of individual skill and jinked his way into the opponent’s penalty area and drilled his close range shot into the net.

It was all too little too late and it was the Wellmen who were celebrating as the final whistle blew.

There was another good attendance of just over 500.
