Tenby earn first win against Tycroes

TENBY United picked up their first win of the season on Saturday (Jan 15) as they beat Tycroes 5-21.

The Pembrokeshire side had been unlucky in recent games, only losing them by a handful of points, but a hat trick of penalties from Lloyd Thomas sent them on their way to their first win.

The game was just five minutes old when Tenby took the lead as Jake Roberts went over for the try and Thomas added the extras.

Five minutes later they had a second as Gwion Jones touched down. This time the conversion was missed.

The home side looked to get themselves back in the game and on 30 minutes they got their first try as Scott Bowen scored.

At 5-12 at half time the game was evenly poised and the next score would prove crucial.

Early in the second half Thomas extended Tenby’s lead with his first penalty and six minutes later he added a second.

That put Tenby 13 points ahead going into the final quarter of the game.

Thomas’ third penalty ten minutes from time sealed the points for Tenby who were delighted to pick up the win.

Their next fixture is set for Saturday, January 29, when they host Pontyberem.
