Tish upset Neyland to earn big win

ST ISHMAELS earned their fourth win of the season on Saturday (Jul 2) as they beat Division 1 leaders Neyland by 118 runs.

Neyland won the toss and chose to field and they were able to restrict Tish to 177-9 in their 45 overs.

The home side lost Steven Hartley early on when he was bowled by Patrick Hannon before Peter Bradshaw was caught by Patrick Bellerby off the bowling of Jack John.

That left Tish on 17-2 but Phil Llewellyn and Richard Brock shared 33 runs for the third wicket partnership.

Llewellyn hit three fours in his score of 15 but he was caught by John off the bowling of Andrew Miller.

Brock hit four fours and a six in his score of 25 but he was caught by Tom Pritchard, giving Miller his second wicket and reducing Tish to 65-4.

Phil Cockburn and Jonathan Pawlett then added 42 runs for the fifth wicket. Cockburn hit seven fours in his score of 37 but he was trapped leg before by Sean Hannon.

Pawlett and Brennan Devonald added another 25 runs to the total before Devonald was caught by George Evans off the bowling of Gary Lloyd.

Neyland began to hit back as Sean Hannon trapped Andrew Williams leg before and bowled Andrew Pawlett.

Jonathan Pawlett had hit four fours and a six in his score of 40 but he was caught by Evans off the bowling of Sean Hannon.

It gave Sean his fourth wicket as he finished with figures of 4-37 and it left Tish on 158-9.

Ieuan Hawkins and Lewis Rhead added another 19 runs to the total though, Hawkins hitting a six and Rhead a four, as Neyland were set 178 to win the game.

However, Neyland were unable to get going in their reply as Tish bowled well.

They were in trouble early on as Lewis Page was caught by Ieuan Hawkins off the bowling of Jonathan Pawlett for a duck and Patrick Bellerby was caught and bowled by Brennan Devonald.

It got worse for the champions as Devonald trapped Andrew Miller leg before, leaving them on 9-3.

Ashley Sutton hit two fours as he reached 9 but was bowled by Devonald and, moments later, he also had George Evans caught by Peter Bradshaw, reducing Neyland to 18-5.

Sean and Patrick Hannon added 18 runs for the sixth wicket but Tish struck again as Sean was trapped leg before by Andrew Pawlett.

Patrick and Nathan Sutton added another 15 runs but Pawlett claimed another wicket as he had Patrick caught by Peter Bradshaw on a score of 27.

That left the score on 51-7 and it soon became 54-8 as Jack John was caught by Jonathan Pawlett off the bowling of Lewis Rhead.

Andrew Pawlett then made it 54-9 as he bowled Nathan Sutton on a score of 9 and he then brought the game to its conclusion as he had Tom Pritchard caught by Steven Hartley.

It was an excellent bowling display with Pawlett finishing with figures of 4-21 while Brennan Devonald also finished with 4-8 from his nine overs, five of which were maidens.
