Wasps settle for a draw

LLANGWM were forced to settle for a 7-7 draw on Saturday (Jan 19) as a Tregaron try denied them their fourth win of the season.

It was a hard fought game but Llangwm coach Bruce Evans and his team were disappointed not to win. Llangwm started very well and Treagaron looked like a rabbit in headlights.

Number 8 Josh Hicks and inside centre Rob Neil made several powerful breaks and made yards regularly.

It was these two who combined to get Llangwm’s try. Hicks picked up from the  base of the scrum carried hard, fended off a few tackles before offloading to Louis Murphy, who set up Neil to burst through the last line of defence and touch down under the posts.

Llangwm held a 7-0 lead at the break but were disappointed not to have added to their tally.

In the second half Tregaron seemed to gain confidence and used the boot well. Llangwm’s defence was tested and Gethin Thomas and Morgan tackled well, as well as Ieuan Power.

Tregaron eventually got the score from inside the 22 and it was no more than they deserved. Ieuan Rees touched the ball down and Huw Bonner added the extras.

Llangwm came back strong and Hicks and Murphy linked up again and it looked like they were going to score in the corner until a deliberate knock on prevented this.

A hard fought game and a fair result in the second half, and Llangwm were punished for not taking their chances.

However lots of positives for the home team, Joey Lewin looked sharp on one wing, and Murphy impressed at 13, while Hicks got them on the front foot with his ball carrying on several occasions once again.

Llangwm will look to go again on Saturday (Jan 26), as they travel to Neyland for a local derby.
