Whitland win KO Cup in extra time

WHITLAND won the Pembrokeshire KO Cup on Friday night (Apr 26), as they beat Crymych 18-3 after extra time.

The two sides battled the elements for much of the game and when the full time whistle went the sides were locked at 3-3.

It was Whitland though who broke away in extra time, scoring two tries in the first half to all but seal the Cup.

The game was played at Milford Haven’s Observatory Ground with wind and rain making things difficult for both sides.

The only score of the first half came from Whitland when Nico Setaro landed a penalty.

It was a similar story in the second half with Crymych scoring a penalty through Harri Williams.

Neither side was able to find a winner, however, and it meant extra time would be needed to separate the two sides.

It was the League 2 West Borderers who got the all-important next score as Johnny Thomas went over for an uncoverted try to make it 8-3.

Nico Setaro then also went over against their League 1 opponents and he then added the extras to make it 15-3 and all but seal the victory.

In the second half of extra time Setaro added another penalty to put the seal on the victory and land the KO Cup for Whitland.
